Species Account
Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: This species has declined in numbers since the spread of Dutch elm disease but its distribution has not changed a great deal since 1970. It is still widely distributed and fairly frequently found in hillside and valley woods with wych elm in vice-counties 62 to 64. However, there are only single records from VC61 (Flamborough, 23.6.1974, SCM) and south VC65 (Tanfield, Flint, 1972a). It has been suggested it may be able to feed on beech or hazel as an alternative to elm (AMRH pers. comm.).
Current status (CHF, 2011): Thinly spread and in a slow decline. Most recent records are from VC62. Few recent records in the south of the county.
