Similar species: Other Coleophoras, especially 0495 spinella, and 0494a prunifoliae not yet recorded in Yorkshire.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: This species and C. spinella (Schrank) were formerly regarded as one under the name nigricella (Stephens) ('Abundant everywhere' (Porritt, 1907)). There are few confirmed records of either moth and more recording is needed to determine their relative frequencies.
