Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Porritt (1907) listed this species as common, although it had been recorded sporadically from vice-counties 62 and 63 there is only a single record from VC64, Askham Bog in 1929 (AS coll.) and none are to hand from vice-counties 61 and 65.
Argus 47, 2001-04:
VC61. Spurn, 20.6.1999 det. HEB (BRS). NEW VICE-COUNTY RECORD.
Argus 50, 2005:
VC61. Spurn, reared commonly from bird nest material collected 1998 (BE) (pre-dates previously published vice-county record), 13.6-13.8.2005 (BRS).
2014 (CHF): Although this species is meant to feed in bird's nests, most of our records are indoors in houses where the larvae feed on other animal products, but not usually on clothes in spite of the vernacular name "Brown-dotted Clothes Moth". Identification is not always easy and if in any doubt it should be dissected. There have been increasing records in recent years.
