Species Account
Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Although many records are still from lowland sites, the habitat preferences of this species do not seem as restrictive as suggested previously (YNU, 1970) ["apparently confined to the lower ground from which all records come"]. There are now also many more coastal records.
2012 (CHF): This species has been gradually declining in the county for many years and there is some evidence of a contraction of range to the south-east. In many areas of the county it has become rather local. 80% of our records come from the Spurn area where it used to be common for example 45 on 28/7/95, but large counts like this have not been noted since 2000. It is very much a moth of lowland areas though there is an odd record from Malham in 2003 which seems well out of area.
