Similar species: Very difficult to separate from 0426 Apple Ermine Yponomeuta malinellus, but normally the greyish cilia of the forewing distinguish Orchard Ermine from Apple Ermine, while the grey suffusion in the ground colour of the forewing separates Orchard Ermine from 0427 Spindle Ermine Yponomeuta cagnagella; 0428 Willow Ermine Yponomeuta rorrella has a slightly different pattern to the grey suffusion of the forewing (MBGBI Vol 3).
Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Widely recorded and often common in vice-counties 61 to 64, unrecorded in VC65.
